The boot has to be in the binding to set the forward pressure. No personal experience on the NEOX but the older one is not stout enough for anything beyond recreational skiing(1018 aside). If nothing else, I think it's BS to have to compensate for a poor design. The band on the Atomic is really thin and a poor design in my opinion. Any binding that strips if you turn up the forward pressure is crap in my opinion. So, set the binding like normal, then release the boot and turn an additional X amount of turns? You might want to specify how far or at least give an idea. I'm assuming you mean, that turning the screw up beyond the normal setting should not be done with the boot in. How else do you set the forward pressure? The boot has to be in the binding to set the forward pressure. If this has been done there is a good chance the worm screw (or band) has been stripped. It should not be done with any binding but other bindings may tolerate it, these will not. This is the source of most prerelease problems. Icing and snow build up in the climbing aid and brake locking mechanism can cause brakes to drop or not lock up.2) NEVER EVER turn up the forward pressure screw with the boot already in the binding.The AFD adjustment has been known to back down.For flat Alpine boot soles, the afd plate will be awkwardly high at a near 45 degree angle.Often times boot can hang up on the rolling parts and therefore set up too loose Ensure the top of the toe lug is touching the bottom side of the very top part of the toe piece.Adjust up and down with posi #3 on the side of the AFD area. Anti friction plate must be just barely tight to the undersole of the front of the boot.Heel release value is adjustable with heel engaged in the up ski position with posi #3 bit.Toe release value setting is adjustable via posi #3 bit in the front of the toe unit.Forward pressure indicator is the raised steel dash mark aligning the the plastic notch above the adjustment work drive screw.Boot sole adjustment of 3cm, use Philips posi #3 bit in lowest rear screw.Press down on heel lever with ski pole to exit binding.
Step in like any traditional alpine binding- toe lug under toe piece, press down on opened heel.Press down on front plastic lever to release boot.Flip single climbing riser bar up as needed.
